housebreaking

Teaching bathroom manners

Housebreaking has two distinct meanings.

In law, it's the crime of breaking into a building to commit theft—similar to burglary but sometimes distinguished by jurisdiction or circumstances: He was charged with housebreaking after forcing entry through a window.

In pet care, housebreaking is training a dog or cat to relieve itself outdoors or in designated areas: The puppy's housebreaking took about three weeks.
