hotlinking
Embedding external resources
Hotlinking is embedding an image or file from another website by linking directly to its URL rather than hosting a copy yourself.
The linked site bears the bandwidth costs while receiving none of the traffic benefits.
Site owners often block hotlinking or replace hotlinked images with warnings or offensive substitutes: They caught someone hotlinking their graphics and swapped in a rude image.
