horse apples
Stable floor piles
Horse apples are the large, round, inedible fruits of the Osage orange tree, roughly the size of a softball with a bumpy green surface.
The name comes from their resemblance to horse droppings.
In rural American speech, horse apples is also a euphemism for horse manure, and by extension, nonsense or bullshit: That story is pure horse apples.
