honey fungus
Parasitic wood decay
Honey fungus is a parasitic fungus that attacks trees and woody plants, spreading through root-like structures called rhizomorphs.
It produces honey-colored mushrooms at the base of infected trees in autumn.
Considered one of the most destructive garden pathogens, it can kill mature trees and persist in soil for years: The oak died from honey fungus.
