holiday observance
Seasonal tradition kept
A holiday observance is the recognition or celebration of a holiday, especially through official or customary practices.
The phrase often distinguishes the day when institutions acknowledge a holiday from the holiday itself: The Fourth of July falls on Saturday, but the official holiday observance is Friday.
Workplaces and schools schedule holiday observances to determine which days off employees and students receive.
