Backcountry route expert
A hiking guide is a person who leads others on foot through wilderness terrain, providing route knowledge, safety expertise, and often interpretation of natural features.
The term also refers to a book or resource describing trails in a region: I picked up a hiking guide to the Pacific Crest Trail.
Professional guides may be certified and work in national parks or adventure tourism.
