headward
Toward the head
Headward means toward the head or source of something, especially a stream or river.
In geomorphology, headward erosion occurs when a stream cuts back into higher ground, extending its channel upstream.
The term appears occasionally in anatomy to indicate direction toward the head of the body, though cephalad is more technical.
