harness races
Paced equine contests
Harness races are horse races in which the horses pull a two-wheeled cart called a sulky, with the driver seated behind.
Unlike thoroughbred racing, harness horses move at a trot or pace rather than a gallop.
The sport has strong traditions in rural America and remains popular at county fairs and dedicated tracks: We watched the harness races at the state fair.
