hanging signs
Dangling storefront markers
Hanging signs are signs suspended from above rather than mounted flat against a surface.
They typically project from buildings perpendicular to the facade, swinging from brackets or chains so pedestrians can read them while walking along the sidewalk: The pub's hanging sign creaked in the wind.
The term also covers signs that hang from ceilings in retail spaces or transit stations.
