hand crew
Manual labor squad
A hand crew is a group of firefighters who work on foot using hand tools rather than heavy machinery.
They dig firebreaks, clear brush, and create containment lines during wildfires: The hand crew hiked three miles to reach the fire's edge.
Hotshot crews are elite hand crews trained for the most dangerous assignments.
