gym teachers
School athletics staff
Gym teachers are the instructors responsible for physical education in schools.
The role carries a stereotype of aggressive enthusiasm, questionable fashion choices (short shorts, whistles), and a tendency to bark orders or make students run laps as punishment.
Our gym teacher made us do push-ups in the rain.
The term often implies someone more interested in athletics than academics.
