gully-washer
Sudden violent rainstorm
A gully-washer is a sudden, heavy rainstorm—the kind that sends torrents of water rushing through gullies and ditches.
The term is informal and regional, most common in the American South and Midwest: We got caught in a real gully-washer on the way home.
