ground school
Pilot theory class
Ground school is the classroom-based portion of flight training, covering theory rather than actual flying.
Students learn aerodynamics, navigation, meteorology, regulations, and aircraft systems before or alongside their time in the cockpit: I passed ground school but still need more flight hours.
The term distinguishes book learning from hands-on instruction in the air.
