green lumber
Newly felled wood
Green lumber is wood that has been freshly cut and not yet dried or seasoned.
It retains much of the moisture from the living tree, making it heavier, more prone to warping, and harder to work with than kiln-dried or air-dried lumber.
Builders typically avoid green lumber for finish work, though it's sometimes used in rough construction where shrinkage won't matter: The barn was framed with green lumber and left to settle.
