green-broke

Barely saddle-ready

Green-broke describes a horse that has received only basic training—enough to accept a saddle and rider, but not yet reliable or fully responsive to commands.

A green-broke horse may still spook, resist, or behave unpredictably: She bought a green-broke mare and spent six months finishing the training.

The term combines green (inexperienced) with broke (trained to accept riding).
