grand entry
Spectacular debut appearance
Grand entry is a ceremonial procession that opens a powwow, where dancers in traditional regalia enter the arena in a prescribed order—typically led by flag bearers, veterans, and dignitaries, followed by dancers grouped by style and age.
The grand entry sets a reverent tone for the gathering and honors Native American traditions: The drum group began playing as the grand entry started.
