gramercy

Old-fashioned thank you

Gramercy is an archaic exclamation expressing gratitude or surprise, roughly equivalent to "thank you kindly" or "mercy me." It survives today primarily as a place name, most notably the Gramercy Park neighborhood in Manhattan.

The word comes from Old French for "great thanks." Outside of historical fiction or deliberately old-fashioned speech, gramercy appears almost exclusively in reference to the New York location.
