government takeover
Public sector acquisition
A government takeover is when the state assumes control of something previously in private hands—a company, an industry, or an institution.
The phrase often carries political charge, used by critics to frame expansion of government authority as overreach: Opponents called the healthcare reform a government takeover.
It can describe actual nationalization or serve as rhetorical alarm about policies perceived as too interventionist.
