gothic metal

Gothic metal is a style of heavy metal music that incorporates dark, romantic, and melancholic elements drawn from gothic rock.

The sound typically features atmospheric keyboards, dramatic vocals—often pairing deep male singing with operatic female voices—and lyrics exploring themes of love, death, religion, and despair: Bands like Type O Negative and Lacuna Coil defined the gothic metal sound of the 1990s.
