black velvet
Bubbly meets stout
Black velvet is a cocktail mixing stout beer (traditionally Guinness) with champagne or sparkling wine in equal parts, layered so the dark stout floats atop the pale wine.
The drink is said to have been created in 1861 to mourn Prince Albert's death.
Black velvet also describes the fabric—velvet that is black—or figuratively, anything with that luxurious dark smoothness: The night sky was black velvet.
