gopher hole
Lawn-damaging burrow
A gopher hole is a burrow entrance dug by a gopher, typically a small mound of loose dirt surrounding a tunnel opening in lawns, fields, or gardens.
These holes create tripping hazards and damage landscaping: The yard was riddled with gopher holes.
Figuratively, any small ground hole may be called a gopher hole regardless of origin.
