good books
Worthy shelf residents
To be in someone's good books is to be in their favor, having earned their approval or goodwill: I'm trying to stay in the boss's good books.
The opposite is to be in someone's bad books—out of favor or in disfavor.
The expression suggests a metaphorical ledger where one's standing is recorded.
