goldbrickers
Workplace effort dodgers
Goldbrickers are people who shirk work or duty while appearing busy—soldiers who fake illness, employees who look productive but accomplish nothing.
The term comes from the old swindle of selling gold-plated lead bars as solid gold.
A goldbricker gives you the appearance of value without the substance: Half the department are goldbrickers collecting paychecks.
