gold dome
Aureate architectural crown
Gold dome refers to a building topped with a gilded dome, often a state capitol: The legislature convenes under the gold dome.
By extension, it means the government housed there: Gold dome insiders expect the bill to pass.
The term appears most often in American political journalism, where it serves as shorthand for state legislative activity.
