giant slaloms
Gated ski competitions
Giant slaloms are alpine ski races down a winding course marked by widely spaced gates.
The gates are farther apart than in standard slalom, allowing higher speeds and longer, sweeping turns rather than quick, tight ones.
Racers compete for the fastest time navigating the course: She won gold in the giant slalom at the Olympics.
