geothermal area
Hot spring region
A geothermal area is a region where heat from the Earth's interior reaches the surface, producing hot springs, geysers, fumaroles, or heated ground.
These areas often occur near volcanic activity or tectonic plate boundaries.
Yellowstone is one of the world's largest geothermal areas.
The term also applies to zones exploited for geothermal energy production.
