freshness seal
Keeps food crisp
A freshness seal is a strip, tab, or membrane on food packaging that must be broken or removed to access the contents, indicating the product hasn't been opened or tampered with.
The seal appears on everything from pill bottles to peanut butter jars: Don't buy it if the freshness seal is broken.
The term sometimes extends metaphorically to virginity or any first-time breach.
