free climbers
Gear-free rock scalers
Free climbers are rock climbers who ascend using only their hands and feet on natural rock features, without pulling on artificial aids like bolts or ladders.
Ropes and protection may be used to catch falls, but not to assist upward progress—distinguishing free climbing from aid climbing.
Free climbers train for years before attempting difficult routes.
