forward scatter
Radiation bent onward
Forward scatter describes the deflection of waves or particles in roughly the same direction they were originally traveling, as opposed to backward scatter.
The term appears most often in physics and meteorology, where it helps explain how light, radio waves, or other radiation interact with particles in the atmosphere: Forward scatter from ice crystals creates the halo around the sun.
In telecommunications, forward scatter propagation bounces signals off atmospheric layers to extend range beyond the horizon.
