fortified wines
Brandy-boosted grape drinks
Fortified wines are wines strengthened by adding distilled spirits, typically brandy, which raises their alcohol content above that of ordinary table wines.
The added spirits also help preserve the wine.
Port, sherry, Madeira, and vermouth are common examples.
After dinner we had a glass of fortified wine.
