follow through

Complete the motion

Follow through means to complete an action or continue a motion after its main force has been delivered.

In sports, it's the continuation of a swing after hitting the ball: Her follow-through on the serve needs work.

More broadly, it means carrying something to completion: He's full of ideas but never follows through.

The noun follow-through and verb follow through share this sense of seeing something all the way to the end.
