folk-ways

Community's inherited habits

Folkways are the traditional customs, habits, and practices of a particular group or culture—the unwritten rules governing everyday behavior.

The term was coined by sociologist William Graham Sumner to describe conventions that arise naturally rather than through formal law: how people greet each other, eat meals, or observe holidays.

The folkways of rural communities differ from urban ones.
