file association
Program-to-document binding
File association is the link between a file type and the program that opens it.
When you double-click a document, your operating system checks which application is associated with that file extension—.pdf opens in a PDF reader, .docx in a word processor.
I changed the file association so images open in Photoshop instead of Preview.
Users can modify these associations when the default program isn't preferred.
