field agent
Deployed intelligence officer
A field agent is someone who works outside an office or headquarters, conducting operations in the real world rather than from a desk.
The term appears most often in intelligence and law enforcement contexts—CIA field agents gather information abroad, FBI field agents investigate cases on location.
Insurance companies and other organizations also employ field agents who visit clients or inspect sites: The field agent assessed the damage in person.
The contrast is always with those who remain at headquarters.
