fiancee

Future wife, promised

A fiancee is a woman engaged to be married.

The word comes from French, where the accent on the final e (fiancée) marks the feminine form.

In English, the accent is often dropped, but the distinction from fiancé (the male form) persists in careful usage: His fiancee is a doctor.

Some writers now use fiancé for both sexes.
