feral animals
Escaped, now wild
Feral animals are domesticated species that have returned to a wild state.
Unlike truly wild animals, feral populations descend from animals once tamed or bred by humans: feral cats, feral pigs, feral horses.
They often become invasive pests, lacking natural predators in their new environments.
The term distinguishes them from animals that were never domesticated.
