feminine gender
Grammatically female classification
Feminine gender is a grammatical category for classifying nouns, pronouns, and their modifiers in languages that assign gender to words.
In French, *la table* (the table) is feminine; in Spanish, *la luna* (the moon).
English retains grammatical gender only in pronouns: she, her, hers.
The term also appears in discussions of social gender identity, where it describes qualities or expressions culturally associated with women.
