farewell song
Goodbye set to music
A farewell song is music performed or played to mark a departure or ending—sung at retirement parties, graduations, or when someone leaves a group.
The term also describes a musician's final recording or performance: The album was his farewell song to the industry.
Some farewell songs become cultural touchstones: "Auld Lang Syne" at New Year's, "So Long, Farewell" from *The Sound of Music*.
