far-out

Beyond the ordinary

Far-out describes something unconventional, experimental, or radical—originally associated with 1960s counterculture and avant-garde art: far-out jazz, far-out ideas about consciousness.

As an exclamation, it expresses enthusiastic approval: You got the job? Far-out!

The term now sounds dated, often used ironically or to evoke that era.
