exhaust stacks
Vertical fume outlets
Exhaust stacks are vertical pipes that vent combustion gases from engines, furnaces, or industrial equipment into the atmosphere.
On diesel trucks and heavy machinery, they're the prominent chrome or black pipes rising from the cab or engine compartment: The semi's exhaust stacks belched black smoke as it climbed the grade.
Also called smokestacks in industrial contexts.
