exclosure

Fenced-off research area

An exclosure is an area fenced off to keep animals or people out, typically to protect vegetation or study ecological conditions without grazing or trampling.

The term is the opposite of enclosure—rather than keeping things in, it keeps things out: The researchers monitored plant recovery inside the deer exclosure.
