escape plot
Plan to flee
An escape plot is a scheme devised by prisoners or captives to break free from confinement.
The term appears in accounts of war camps, prisons, and hostage situations: The guards discovered the escape plot before anyone reached the tunnel.
In fiction, escape plots drive narratives from *The Count of Monte Cristo* to *The Great Escape*.
