emergency leave
Urgent time off
Emergency leave is time off granted to an employee for urgent, unforeseen circumstances—typically a family crisis, serious illness, or death of a close relative.
Unlike scheduled vacation, emergency leave addresses situations requiring immediate absence: She took emergency leave when her mother was hospitalized.
Policies vary by employer and jurisdiction, with some offering paid leave and others unpaid.
