emergency key
Hidden door opener
An emergency key is a spare key kept for urgent situations—typically hidden outside a home, left with a neighbor, or stored somewhere accessible when the primary key is lost or unavailable.
The term also applies to physical keys included with electronic locks or keyless entry systems, allowing manual access when batteries die or technology fails: The car's emergency key is hidden inside the fob.
