electroclash
Aggressive digital nostalgia
Electroclash is a music genre from the early 2000s combining electronic dance music with punk attitude and 1980s synthpop aesthetics.
It features distorted synthesizers, drum machines, and often deadpan or provocative vocals.
The style emphasized irony and retro-futurism, reacting against the slickness of mainstream electronic music: The electroclash scene peaked around 2002 before fragmenting into other genres.
