educational segregation
Separate learning systems
Educational segregation is the separation of students into different schools or programs based on race, ethnicity, socioeconomic status, or other demographic factors.
Historically it referred to legally mandated racial separation in schools, as in the American South before Brown v.
Board of Education (1954).
Today it more often describes de facto segregation resulting from residential patterns, school district boundaries, or tracking systems: Educational segregation persists in many urban districts despite decades of integration efforts.
