ecstatic dance
Joyful freeform dancing
Ecstatic dance is a form of freeform movement practice where participants dance without choreography, often with eyes closed, to reach altered states of consciousness or emotional release.
Sessions typically prohibit talking and phones, creating space for uninhibited self-expression: The ecstatic dance community meets every Sunday morning.
The practice draws from spiritual traditions but often exists in secular wellness contexts.
