dweebs

Awkward bookish types

Dweebs is the plural of dweeb, a mildly derisive term for someone perceived as socially awkward, unfashionable, or obsessively studious.

Unlike nerd or geek, which have acquired positive connotations, dweeb remains dismissive: Those dweebs are always in the computer lab.

The word emerged in American slang in the 1980s.
