scenesters
Trendy social butterflies
Scenesters are people deeply embedded in a particular cultural scene—typically music, art, or fashion—who conspicuously perform their membership.
The term carries a whiff of criticism, suggesting someone more invested in being seen at the right places and knowing the right people than in the culture itself: The club was full of scenesters who'd move on once the neighborhood got trendy.
A scenester knows what's cool before it's cool, but that knowledge is often more about social positioning than genuine passion.
