single entry
Simplified ledger method
Single entry refers to a bookkeeping method where each transaction is recorded only once, typically in a cash book or simple ledger.
Unlike double-entry accounting, which records both debits and credits for every transaction, single entry tracks only one side—usually cash received or paid out.
The system is simpler but provides less financial oversight: The small business used single entry bookkeeping until it grew large enough to need proper accounts.
